Hapkido
Hapkido is a fairly young Korean martial art that has its roots in several other traditional Korean martial arts as well as in Japanese martial arts. In the period after the Second World War, a variety of martial arts arose in Korea. It was not allowed to practice the Korean martial arts during the Japanese occupation. The Korean martial arts were practiced during the Japanese occupation in family circles, in the mountains and in the monasteries. Although the Japanese occupation had a major influence on the Korean martial arts, traditional techniques such as Taekkyon, Buddhist and Taoist styles have been preserved. These traditional styles have left their mark on the martial arts of the post-World War II era.
In addition to trap breaking, kicking techniques, punching techniques, hitting, joint clamps, pressure point techniques, Hapkido also knows weapon techniques. The strength and movement of the opponent is used as much as possible to unbalance and / or control them. Only after this the counterattack begins.
Ssang Geom
Geom means sword and Ssang Geom are the double swords. The first illustrated Korean martial arts book, Mu Ye Sin Bo, describes 18 skills including Ssang Geom. The double swords are known from Leonardo from ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ as well as Kirito who fights his way through the virtual world with two swords in the anime ‘Sword Art Online’. Although the 18 Skills were first officially described in 1759, the 18 Skills were not new. Most of these skills had long been practiced in military camps and were part of state exams for military officers. In this workshop you will learn how to deal with the double swords!
